Volunteer Opportunties

DII relies on volunteers to help us meet our mission of helping those with dyslexia to reach their potential. Some volunteer opportunities are at our office and include tasks such as database entry and mailings. Others help us with community and fundraising events. Check out the descriptions below to see how you can be a part of our team!

Indianapolis Monthly Dream Home

This year's home will be located at 106th and Ditch Road in Laurel Ridge. The Dream Home will run during the month of June - stayed tune for specific dates. We will run 3 hour shifts every day through the entire run of the show. It takes approximately 150 people to cover all shifts - we need a lot of help on this one! You may volunteer in groups - it's a great way to have some fun together.
Shift duties include telling visitors about specific rooms of the house, taking tickets, parking cars, and working the DII information booth.

Indiana Authors Breakfast

This annual fundraising event will be on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at the Meridian Hills Country Club. The breakfast will feature six Indiana authors who will share with guests their writing experiences, stories about their book(s), and their love of literacy. Guests will enjoy a buffet breakfast and the chance to interact with the authors before, during, and after the event.
Volunteers are needed to promote the event by flyering, helping with mailings, and making phone calls. Volunteers are needed the day of the event for check-in, table set-up, and table tear-down.

Distribution of Promotional Materials

Volunteers are needed to distribute promotional materials on our services and events to businesses and organizations throughout central Indiana. If you are interested in being on our distribution team, it is a commitment of 3-4 times a year. We do our best to ensure that volunteers are delivering materials to areas that are convenient and familiar to them.

Clerical Tasks

The DII office can get very busy, especially when a mailing is around the corner! We need volunteers to help us fold, stuff, and mail materials throughout the year. From time to time, we also need assistance with filing, data entry, and answering phones.
